How to keep your house clean with indoor pets?

Taking care of your pets is just like taking care of babies. A baby may grow old and be independent, but a pet needs an equal amount of care throughout. To maintain hygiene at home with pets around, it's necessary to regularly clean the house and take appropriate measures for the same. Be it dogs and cats or small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs or hamsters, the hygiene rules for all of them differ.

Some of the common practices to follow with pets are:

Removing Urine Stains

While we all appreciate the struggle of toilet training a new puppy, accidents can happen with cats, bunnies and other small animals too. To get rid of the urine stains on the couch, bed or furniture, use a urine stain remover. While you may think you have managed to clean it all away, pet urine is strong and the odour and stain are difficult to get rid of with water or other cleaning solutions.

Shedding of fur

Using an automatic vacuum is the best option for people with pets who shed fur. Apart from fur, dirt and other debris is in the house and their fur, as they love to play around. By the time you are done vacuuming the house, it’s time to do it again.

Grooming routine

Regular grooming is important for every pet. The grooming frequency and routine for every animal differ. A few things to remember are:

  • Using wipes to clean dogs' paws and small animals' body and feet for the ones who can't have a bath.
  • Trimming nails of every pet animals
  • Cleaning the accumulated wax and dirt from the ears of each of these animals weekly using a saline solution. Make sure you clean softly as they have a very sensitive skin
  • Brushing a dog's and cat's teeth. Providing natural branches or hay to small animals because it helps prevent defects. The veterinarian can help you choose the right one for your pet

Cleaning their bedding and cage

The bed or cage is their personal space, and therefore it’s important to choose and set one up properly and clean it regularly.

For dogs and cats, it's extremely important to clean their bedding atleast once a week to maintain hygiene and similarly, for small animals make sure you clean their cage atleast once a week. Faeces, as well as food and water, must be cleaned on a daily basis. This prevents the spread of microorganisms that are harmful to the animal and the home.

Follow these basic hygiene practices for a clean, germ-free and loving home.
