There have been rumours doing rounds about pets being infected with COVID-19 and how they can infect humans. However, there is no evidence to support these false claims.
"While 2 dogs (Hong Kong) and 1 cat (Belgium) have been reported to have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, infectious disease, experts and multiple international and domestic human and animal health organizations agree there is no evidence to indicate that pets spread COVID-19 to other animals or people.
In light of the above, pets should not be abandoned in fear of COVID-19. Pets are family too, and whilst we deal with one pandemic, we don't have to worry about dog safety or any other crisis. Think about all the ways in which you can use this time to have fun with your pets.
Use this time to rekindle
As a pet parent who is occupied most of the time and misses out on spending enough time with their pet, use this time to rekindle with your pet by playing with them, training them and cuddling with them.
Keep them entertained
Your pet’s boredom might lead to aggression and destructive behaviour which may cause damage to your furniture. To prevent this from happening, keep them active at home with interactive games which encourage mental stimulation and enable physical activity which may be limited due to the restrictions imposed. For dogs, there is a range of chew toys, chase and tug toys, plush toys and interactive toys to keep them occupied. Even a kong is a great toy to keep dogs engaged for long periods of time by hiding their treats inside it and encouraging your doggo to find it.
Regular grooming and hygiene
While it may not be possible to visit a groomer, practice a DIY grooming routine for your pet using simple grooming tips and tricks. Just like we take care of a baby, bathe your pet, cleanse their coat regularly, brush their teeth and trim their nails and practice flea and tick remedies.
A lot of love and little care
All that your pet needs is love and care, and it’s not just about dog safety, it’s for your family’s well-being too.
While you are taking every precaution to keep your family safe, wondering how to keep your dog safe? Healthy food, regular grooming, a lot of physical activity and love in abundance are some of the things you need to see them wagging their tails with joy and showering you with wet kisses.
A simple practice of love and care will keep your family healthy, happy and safe.
