Wet Dog Food

Proper nutrition, that is based on dog’s breed, age, weight, and health conditions is an important aspect of the pet-parenting journey. The common dilemma pet parents may face is whether to feed their pets dry or wet dog food.

The main difference between the two is the moisture content. Wet dog food contains around 70-80% moisture whereas kibble i.e. dry dog food contains around 10% moisture. Notably, the higher moisture content in canned dog food can help keep a dog hydrated, thereby helping prevent many urinary tract related issues. Wet dog foods such as Pedigree wet dog food generally come as stews, in gravy, as loafs or pates.

Do keep in mind, canned foods are intended to be consumed within a very short time of being opened, and need to be refrigerated if consumption is intended over a time span.

Wet Dog Food - Increasing appetite

Wet Dog Food tends to be more palatable to dogs due its higher protein and fat content with fewer carbohydrates. Further, the soft texture makes the food easily digestible whilst the strong aroma makes it more appetising for picky eaters or dogs with certain illnesses. With a high moisture content, wet dog food can also help keep a dog hydrated, benefiting the urinary tract.

Wet food for dogs can also be ideal for senior dogs who may have reduced appetite due to loss of taste and smell sensory receptors. Wet dog food releases a stronger aroma and may be more appetising to senior dogs.
